WHAT IS HELIUM?

It is a decentralized wireless network that allows all low-power smart devices to send or receive data over the Internet. Miners will earn HNT by providing services that cover the network and relay data information to the Internet using hardware called Hotspot.

Helium is similar to Wifi. Wifi helps people to transmit and receive data wirelessly already connected. And Helium will save much more costs and network speed (peer to peer). The Helium network has a very smart design, several features designed for shared consulting and scalability such as:

  • Permissions and Confidentiality: It encrypts all devices on the network and puts those data in the cloud.
  • Reliability and Scalability: Blockchain will be secure and extensible to make it work easily.
  • Open Source: Helium is an open source website and will provide users with open work.

Blockchain Helium was created to encourage open source decentralized models. Helium uses a Proof-of-Coverage (PoC) mechanism. PoC will be given to miners through HNT to incentivize new creation and stronger development.

SPECIAL FEATURES OF HELIUM

Helium will allow people to build their own, extremely low-cost, secure wireless infrastructure, allowing low-power electronic devices to send data to the Internet. It has the following features:

  • Helium Hotspot: a hardware device with an extremely economical and compact fee, it can be both a miner and a wireless access point for the Helium blockchain.
  • Helium Console: This is a tool used to manage their registration, authentication and device management across the entire network. In addition, it further provides users with available connections to route data over HTTP or MQTT.
  • LongFi: A combination of Long Rang Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) and the Helium blockchain so that any LoRaWAN device can transmit data over the network. An open source protocol in the Sub-GHz frequency band. If you use LongFi on any device that can broadcast a message and that message will be delivered to the web server for a small fee.
  • Helium Tabs: This app is made for location tracking connected to Helium Network. For example, track pets, luggage, keys or other assets within range.

PARTNER

• Nestle ReadyRefresh: One of the first customers to test Helium for water monitoring in Connecticut
• Agulus: It uses Helium to automate water distribution based on wireless sensors connected to Helium Hotspots
• Lime: Global bike and scooter sharing service Lime used the Helium Network to find lost bikes and scooters
• Conserve: Connects with Helium to provide information about artwork
• Careband: Provides consumers with a wireless wearable device to track the location and temperature of individuals working in hospital or office environments to help track COVID-19-related contacts. Careband is using Helium network to track the location of wearable devices
• BCycle: Offers bike-sharing in the United States. BCycle is using Helium to track bikes.

HOW SECURE IS THE HELIUM NETWORK?

Helium uses a mechanism called Proof-of-Coverage (PoC), which rewards users for mining and ensures stability.

The PoC is based on the HoneyBadger BFT protocol, which is designed for special communication in case of suspicion.

The attack will affect the node operator. For token holders, private wallets will be asymmetric to help users protect their personal accounts.
